Visitors Hit Counter Inside Chichen Itza

Raul, our guide, explains the architecture of Chichen Itza. He pointed out that the Toltecs moved in a changed the style and added human sacrifice. High point was between 800 and 1200 AD
Paula stands in front of south side of the pyramid. The pyramid has four sides with 91 steps and a big step at the top -- total 365 steps for each day in the year. The Mayans also have a 280 day baby gestation calendar. The two running together give a 52 year cycle. The pyramid is oriented to true north as were the Egyptian pyramids and the Anasazi monuments.

The Mayans had two 7 man teams try to pass a ball through the hoop.
This frieze shows the winning team captain after he was beheaded. Seven streams of blood gush from the neck of the winner. The seven gushes relate to the eyes, nostrils, ears and mouth.
Paula strides onto the ball court. At both ends, not shown are pedestals, where the king sat and at the opposite where the teams sat. Because of the curved walls the king could overhear the conversations of the teams, over one hundred meters away.
