If you saw "Born on the 4th of
July" you had to be offended and ashamed by the neglect our government
showed to the wounded Viet Nam veterans. You may not be aware, but for a while our government charged our wounded Operation Iraqi Freedom veterans for food while they were in military hospitals. When the word got out the policy was reversed. (see http://www.sptimes.com/2003/09/11/Worldandnation/Wounded_billed_for_ho.shtml ) Whether or not you agree with the war,
you have to agree that wounded veterans and dependents of those killed in action
need to be respected. They need to have the dignity of assured jobs in our
economy once they have left the armed forces and returned to civilian life. It is a travesty that the largest
portion of homeless are vets. Please sign and pass on the petition
below. Every time you get to 10 signatures please forward it to your
Senators and Congresspersons. This page gives you the phone, fax and
email addresses of your Senators and Congresspersons: http://www.visi.com/juan/congress/ Please copy the petition below and circulate it among your friends or sign in below. Petition for Fair Treatment of
Wounded Veterans and Dependents of Those Killed in Action in Iraq and
Afghanistan. We the undersigned urge you to introduce
and/or support legislation that would require government agencies and government
contractors to hire wounded veterans and dependents of those killed in action in
Iraq and Afghanistan and provide training for career advancement. Further we urge that contract awards
should be influenced by the percentage of employees who are wounded veterans and
dependents of those killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan and their levels of
responsibility in the bidding companies. Finally we urge you to include federal
funding for operation and publicizing of an internet hiring site for wounded
veterans and dependents of those killed in action in Iraq and Afghanistan so
that they can easily participate and can be easily found by prospective
employers. Signed 1. Clifford Lazar, Los Angeles 2. Paula Lazar, Los Angeles 3. To email this page click File, Send, Page by email |
